POWER DYNAMICS

Every single person on this earth, at least once in their lifetime, wishes to have power. Power is not inherently dreadful, but every coin has two sides. Wherever there is power, there is politics. Potency affects all aspects of social life. It's the 21st century we are living in, it's been 75 years of independence, 56 years of women's right to vote, 400 years since slavery, and we are still not liberated. And due to this, there are(sometimes invisible) power dynamics within the society between the oppressed and the oppressor class.

The misfortune is that the oppressor group is not even aware of their privileges. Consider a rich man saying, "why are people obsessed with the farmer's protest?" or a white person saying, "well, why BLM? it should be ALM".  The problem is right in front of them, and they still cannot see it. The concern remains unperceived because they are blind by their privilege.

The dilemma is they are in the position of power to say that "Politics is not my cup of tea!". A straight can ignore homophobia, but a homoerotic cannot. Whites can ignore racism, but POC cannot. Ignoring the problem is itself an exemption, and it is probably the most prominent privilege they have. People who belong to the oppressed class cannot just shut their eyes to the problem because it personally affects their lives.

Here's one of my favorite quote from a movie:

However, sometimes it's not just the oppressor class. Every so often, people can have oppressive prejudices and biases about the identity group to which they belong. Babies can start learning even in the womb. We are circumambient by racists, homophobic conservatives, etc. We grew to learn this stuff, and that's why even the oppressed could be brainwashed to the extent that they can actively participate in their own oppression. That is called internalized prejudices.

Imagine how much better the world could be if there were no hate. Sometimes I wonder how many discoveries we have lost because more than half of our population were babysitting the grown adults, (yes I am talking about the women who were forced to become housewives). According to the studies, there is a 9-13% gender pay gap in India, which means the country will be 22% richer if we start paying them equally! To add on this,  the pay gap is worse for WOC.

The only way to break this power structure is by educating people about social issues and holding abominators accountable for their hatred. Neglecting was never a solution.
